Warriors Finish Grizzlies

The West Kelowna Warriors rode a 3-goal 1st period into a 5-3 win over the Victoria Grizzlies on Sunday afternoon at the Q Center.

Quin Foreman opened the scoring just 37 seconds in as he put a rebound past Michael Benson for the 1-0 lead after a great shot from former Grizzly Garrett Forster.

West Kelowna went up 2-0 at 5:12 as Kylar Hope slapped one off the inside of the post to extend his point streak to 13 games.

The Grizzlies got within 1 off a Keyvan Mokhtari rebound goal, before Lane Gilliss redirected his 2nd of the year past Benson for the 3-1 lead.

In the 2nd, Liam Blackburn scored on a shorthanded breakaway going top shelf to make it 4-1.

Victoria made it 4-2 on Kevin Massy’s point short, but a Reed Gunville power-play goal made it 5-2. Gunville was robbed by Benson on the previous play, but made up for it off a pass from Nick Rutigliano.

Massy scored his 2nd of the game in a 3rd period that lacked energy, but the Warriors were able to finish with 4 points on the weekend to stay within striking distance of the Salmon Arm Silverbacks for 2nd place.

The Warriors take on Penticton in a home and home next weekend, with the home date coming Friday at Royal Lepage Place before visiting the SOEC on Saturday night.
