WEST KELOWNA B.C.. – The West Kelowna Warriors extend their winning streak to 8 games after clipping the Surrey Eagles 6-2.
It was a slow start for the Warriors who were behind for over half the game. Goals scored by former Warrior Chase Stevenson gave the Eagles an early lead and then at the 12 minute mark of the second period, Max Mohagen capitalized on a juicy rebound given up by Warriors goaltender Brock Baier and the Eagles were up by two, but not for long. Momentum was needed for the West Kelowna Warriors and only 2 minutes later Bennett Norlin fired a weak shot through a couple bodies and past Eagles goaltender Kyle Dumba getting the Warriors on the board. After that first goal the flood gates opened and pressure was in the Eagles end for the rest of the hockey game. A scrum in front of the Eagles net led to Parm Dhaliwal having plenty of space at the hash marks and the Warriors tied it up with 6 minutes to go in the second. The pressure continued the rest of the period with Mike Hardman firing the puck past Kyle Dumba completing the comeback.
The Warriors started the third period with a minute of mayhem. Owner Kim Dobranski got the 1200 Warriors fans in attendance making noise to the point where it was deafening. During this time the Warriors were on a power play and within 20 seconds Lukas Cullen was able to tip a Mike Hardman shot giving the Warriors a 4-2 lead. The pace of play for the rest of the game was controlled by the Warriors with Mike Hardman picking up his second of the night on the power play and then Willie Reim finishing things off with the empty net goal giving West Kelowna the 6-2 victory.
