WESTSIDE ACQUIRES RODRIGUE

The Westside Warriors expect to have a new face between the pipes on Wednesday night when they host the Merritt Centennials.

Warriors Head Coach/GM Rylan Ferster has announced the acquisition of Dwayne Rodrigue.  The 20 year-old hails from St-Georges de Beauce, Quebec, and has played Junior ‘A’ hockey in Quebec and Alberta, as well as Major Junior hockey in the QMJHL.  He was acquired by Westside from the Grande Prairie Storm in exchange for future considerations.

Rodrigue joins a Warriors team that has been lacking stability in goal, having lost 9 straight games and allowed 40 goals against in that span.

Coach Ferster says his team “needed a fresh start,” and he says his new netminder will get the opportunity to carry a heavy workload in Westside.

Through 6 games this season with the Grande Prairie Storm, Dwayne Rodrigue carries a 2-4 record with a 3.85 GAA and an 89% save percentage.

While he has left the team, Ferster says Steve Racine remains on club’s roster.  “We certainly want to wish him all the best” Ferster says of Racine, adding that he’s still trying to find a place for the US-born goaltender to play.
