The Warriors are the hottest team in the BCHL, after earning a fifth straight victory Saturday in Salmon Arm.
The 4-2 win also completed the weekend sweep of the Silverbacks, after a 5-3 win at RLP on Friday.
“I think it’s our best 60 minutes we’ve seen all year” Associate Coach Brent Gough suggests, while also making mention of West Kelowna’s success on special teams.
The Warriors went 2/4 on the powerplay on Saturday, while also shutting down the ‘Backs on their two opportunities.
West Kelowna’s ‘shut-down line’ of Matt Anholt, Tyson Dallman, and Brett Mennear played a key role in the matchup, keeping Salmon Arm’s top line to one goal, and also chipping in two tallies of their own.
Tyson Dallman notched his second goal since being picked up from the WHL’s Tri-City Americans. Dallman says his linemates and teammates can feel good about their performance, though he insists the recipe was simple.
“Just keep it simple, be good on the blue lines, and honestly just work hard.”
Captain Matt Anholt also scored for the Tribe, while Jordan Masters and Ben Tegtmeyer added powerplay markers.
Colton Thibault and Evan Anderson replied for the Apes.
Andy Desautels made 28 saves to backstop West Kelowna to a fifth straight win in arguably his best performance of the season, while Angus Redmond allowed four goals on 35 shots in a losing cause.
The win propels West Kelowna into a momentary lead atop the Interior Conference. The Warriors have a two point lead over Penticton, though the Vees have two games in hand.
Saturday’s outing in Salmon Arm marked the first of five straight road games for the Warriors. The Warriors play just one game next week – a Saturday contest in Trail.
