The West Kelowna Warriors got their road trip off on the right foot with a big 7-1 win on Friday night against the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
Jonathan Desbiens had a four-point night, starting off with an early goal in the hockey game as he beat Storm Phaneuf from the bottom of the circle to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
Matthew Greenfield was the story the majority of the night, making a bunch of key saves in the first period, as the Capitals held an 8-2 advantage in the shot department, before Rylan Yaremko made it 2-0 with just over five minutes to go in the opening frame.
The Capitals got on the board as former Warrior Kade Kehoe beat Greenfield for the lone goal that Cowichan Valley mustered on the night.
Bryan Basilico restored the two-goal lead on a nice little pass from Liam Blackburn out front as he beat Phaneuf to make it 3-1.
The Warriors scored twice in 30 seconds to begin the third, as Desbiens buried his second of the game just 40 seconds into the third, before Garrett Forster made it 5-1 right after.
Forster scored maybe the nicest goal of the night with a tricky deflection reaching away from the net, bouncing it off both of Phaneuf’s skates and into the net.
Tyler Anderson finished the scoring with a rocketed wrister from between the circles, as he picks up his second of the year.
With the game out of hand, the Warriors and Capitals engaged in a few dust-ups after whistles, with Josh Adkins being thrown out for the second goaltender interference penalty of the game against the Capitals.
Greenfield pulled off a rare feat in the game as well, picking up the Fortis BC Energy Player of the Game while on the road. Forster (2 Goals, 3rd Star), Blackburn (3 Assists, 2nd Star), and Desbiens (2 G, 2 A, 1st Star) rounded out the end of game awards.
West Kelowna will travel to Powell River tomorrow night to take on the Kings at the Hap Parker Arena, puck drops at 7:15.
