WARRIORS MAUL GRIZZLIES

The Westside Warriors showed no mercy against a Victoria Grizzlies team playing its third game in just two and a half days.

The Warriors exploded for a season-high 10 goals in pounding the visiting Grizzlies 10-2 before more than 900 fans at Royal LePage Place Sunday afternoon.

Westside snapped a 2-2 tie with three goals in a span of 71 seconds early in the second period and the rout was on.

They would score five times in the middle frame, one shy of the franchise record for goals in a period.

Travis Blanleil, Connor Dempsey and Peter MacIntosh all scored twice for the Warriors. David Pope, Devon Hascarl, Brett McKinnon and Max French added singles.

MacIntosh's first goal was his first in the BC Hockey League in his 128th game.

He only had to wait three minutes for his second.

"It's great to get that monkey off my back. It's a great feeling to put those in and just move on and stop hearing about it from the boys," says MacIntosh.

"It's just bounces and a lot of times it's just luck. I don't even think I had one of my better games today. I think I had other games where I could have had one or two and it just didn't happen."

MacIntosh says sometimes you get the bounces and sometimes you don't.

It's been that way for the Warriors for much of the season.  Sunday, they got the bounces.

"It would be nice if we could bank a couple of those goals, wouldn't it?" stated coach Rylan Ferster after the game.

"I think we caught a team a little bit tired here. I don't really know what to say, it's nice to get the win and I'm happy for the kids. The season hasn't been easy for us, and I think there's been a lot of games where we deserved a better fate and today I think we got rewarded."

The win snapped Westside’s two-game losing streak and moved them to within two points of sixth-place Salmon Arm in the Interior Conference.

The Warrors and Silverbacks will tangle twice over the next seven days.  The teams meet up next Friday and Sunday afternoon, both at Royal LePage Place.
