Merritt visits Royal LePage Place for key Interior Conference game

West Kelowna, B.C. ? It?s clear almost anything can happen on any given day in the BCHL, so each game against a conference rival becomes as important as it is unpredictable.

The Merritt Centennials visit Royal LePage Place on Sunday (2:30 p.m. start, tickets at 250-762-5050 or westsidewarriors.ca) for a key early season game against the Westside Warriors.

The Centennials have won one two of their six games this season, but one of those games was this past week against the Interior Conference-leading Penticton Vees. The Warriors are 5-3 and lost a game against the previously unbeaten defending national champion Vernon Vipers 4-3 on a goal in the dying seconds on Friday night.

Alas, the Vees beat the Vipers on Saturday night.

Anything can happen in junior hockey it seems, especially in the talent-rich BCHL.

Cam Reid, a draft picks of the Nashville Predators, leads the Warriors in scoring with 13 points. Dustin Johnson leads Merritt with five points. Johnson is 6? 2? and 200 pounds, 19 years old and from Penticton.

The Warriors have won two of three games on this current seven-game homestand and look to rebound from Friday night?s heartbreaking loss. Kevin Jebson was spectacular in goal Friday, making 48 saves.

It promises to be an exciting and unpredictable game at Royal LePage Place.
