WEST KELOWNA B.C. – The West Kelowna Warriors (24-20-0-1) host the Price George Spruce Kings (27-11-1-5) Sunday afternoon..

WARRIORS VS SPRUCE KINGS REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE:

Sept 21st @ Chilliwack (BCHL Showcase) WIN 4-2

Jan 20th @ West Kelowna

Feb 14th @ Prince George

The Warriors were unable to win their third in a row last Friday after suffering a 1-0 loss to the Vernon Vipers. It was a combination of great defensive play for the Vipers plus a lack of timing on the Warriors part offensively. The only goal scored was because of an offensive zone turnover the Warriors gave up. Warriors Assistant Coach Matt Millers, gives credit to the Vipers coaching staff for their defensive effort, but knows his team needs to be smarter with the puck, “We made too many mistakes with the puck giving up turnover. Don’t try and be fancy with the puck, just get the puck to the net and good things will happen. The Vipers played a simple game, a well coach game, and they deserved the victory.”

This afternoon the Warriors face the Prince George Spruce Kings, a club that has already faced the Warriors this season dating back to the BCHL showcase where the Warriors defeated the Spruce Kings 4-2. This time around but clubs have different looking rosters. Both clubs have a little more fire power but front and stellar goaltending. Warriors Assistant Coach believes the Spruce Kings are just another defensive juggernaut in the BCHL, “Prince George plays a very similar game to the Vipers, I think if we capitalize on our chances and be smarter with the puck we will be successful”. The Spruce Kings are one of those clubs that relies on goaltending, and Logan Neaton is their go to between the pipes. Neaton currently holds the best goals against average in the BCHL with a 1.96, and appears to be getting better as the season goes on. Warriors need to make sure they get an early lead on the Spruce Kings in order to pick up a victory this afternoon.

The Warriors are currently sitting in 4th place in the Interior Division with 49 points. 6 points behind the Wenatchee Wild and 2 points ahead of the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. The Prince George Spruce Kings are sitting in second place in the Mainland division. 3 points behind the Chilliwack Chiefs and 8 points ahead of the Coquitlam Express.

Warriors Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations Chase Johnston is back on the mic with a pregame show 10 minutes before puck drop. Just a reminder that tickets are still available for this afternoon match up versus the Spruce Kings. Visit the Warriors website and select single game tickets for more details.
