WEST KELOWNA, B.C. – The West Kelowna Warriors comeback and defeat the Powell River Kings 4-3 in overtime Friday night.
The Warriors allowed a shorthanded goal to start the hockey game with Nic Belanger scoring his first of the year to make it 1-0 Kings. The Warriors would answer back with Isaiah Norlin finding Dylan Brooks who scored his first of the season and first BCHL goal to tie it up at one heading into the second frame.
The Warriors came out with a big push in period two putting up a total of 20 shots but it was the Kings who took the lead again. Aaron Neal was able to score his first of the season midway through the period. Then with over two minutes remaining Warriors blue liner Pat Lawn would score his 2nd of the year and first “real” BCHL goal to tie the game up at two heading into the third. The goal would technically be the first goal Pat Lawn scored because he got credit for the own goal the Victoria Grizzlies scored on themselves during the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack.
Once again the Kings would score again to take the lead in the third. While on the powerplay Mark D’Agostino would fire a sharp angle shot past Warriors goaltender Johnny Derrick to give the Kings a 3-2 lead with under 7 minutes remaining in regulation. Then the Warriors would go on their sixth power play of the evening with over 3 minutes remaining. During the man advantage Marcus Joughin would find an open Tyler Cristall who one time shot from the right circle past Kings goaltender Zak Brice to tie it up and force overtime. The Kings would begin the extra frame on the powerplay where the Warriors would stand tall and kill it off. During the remaining 4 on 4 play there would be no stoppage to reset back to the 3 on 3 we would usually see in OT. In the final seconds of overtime Marcus Joughin would find an opening and beat Zak Brice on the backhand giving the Warriors a 4-3 victory.
