KINGS COOL OFF WARRIORS IN PR

West Kelowna’s six-game winning streak came to a disappointing end on Friday, with a 4-3 overtime loss in Powell River.
Trailing 2-0 early in the second period, the Warriors tallied three straight goals to take a lead.
However, with their goalie on the bench for an extra attacker, the Kings were able to find the equalizer with 26 seconds remaining in regulation time.
Jarryd Leung’s third of the night 1:47 into the first extra frame then gave Powell River the victory
“To go into their barn and play well and have a real good chance to win the game, we can’t be too upset” Warriors forward Seb Lloyd suggests of the result.
Still, the 19 year-old knows a victory was within reach for a team that has lofty aspirations.  “Once you’re satisfied with losing … that’s not too good” Lloyd surmises.
The Warriors got goals from Ambrose Firkus, Jason Cotton, and Seb Lloyd in the defeat.  Drew Dorantes buried the tying goal for Powell River late in the third period, while Leung’s hat-trick provided the rest of the Kings’ offence.
Andy Desautels suffers the loss, after allowing a questionable goal against in overtime.  Jeff Smith also conceded a suspect goal, but earned his third consecutive win in as many starts in the Powell River net.
Special teams play dominated the game, with Powell River notching one powerplay goal on seven chances (Leung’s second tally early in the second period).
The Warriors were held scoreless on nine powerplay opportunities, something Lloyd knows hurt his team.  “We score one or two powerplay goals, it’s a win” Lloyd admits, adding that West Kelowna just seemed “a little out of sorts” on the man-advantage.
The news isn’t all bad for West Kelowna.  The single point earned in Powell River, combined with Penticton’s loss in Salmon Arm, means the Warriors have taken over sole possession of first place in the BCHL’s Interior Division.
The Warriors continue their road trip on Saturday evening in Nanaimo, before a Sunday matinee in Cowichan Valley.
