Blackburn in Overtime

Liam Blackburn beat Lawson Fenton on an individual effort down low and buried the game winner from the front of the net at 3:05 of double overtime in a 2-1 victory over the Coquitlam Express on Wednesday night.

The game was quite even throughout when you look at the chances to score, but it was the Warriors who fired the last goal for the win. Jonathan Desbiens opened the scoring in the second period, as his 36th of the season was snapped past Fenton’s blocker off the rush.

It looked destined to remain 1-0 to the final buzzer, but Colton Kerfoot converted a cross-ice pass to beat Keelan Williams, who would still get named tonight’s first star.

In overtime, the Warriors killed off 2:47 seconds of Express power play time, as Williams made five saves to get it to 3 on 3.

Blackburn faked going behind the net in double overtime, and stick-handled his way around below the goal line, finally coming in front and sniping one on the blocker side of Fenton, to send the Warriors over the boards to celebrate their fifth straight victory.

The Warriors now head to Trail on Friday for a pair of games against the Smoke Eaters. Game times are both at 7:30 on Friday and Saturday.
