The West Kelowna Warriors scored early and often in a six-goal second period and cruised to a 9-0 victory Friday night against the Trail Smoke Eaters at the Cominco Arena.
A tightly played first period only lead to one goal, as Rylan Yaremko deflected a point shot past Bailey MacBurnie with just over a minute to play. Word after the game was that it hit Jonathan Desbiens on the way to the goal, as he may get credit for a goal in his seventh straight game.
It was a flurry of action to begin the second period as Liam Blackburn found the net on a cross ice pass from Garrett Forster, before Tyler Anderson made it 3-0 with a snipe joining the rush for his third goal of the season.
Brett Mennear chased MacBurnie with a backhand goal at the 4:20 mark of the third period, as Linden Marshall took over.
The game went to 5-0 when Kyle Marino tapped one over the goal line, and Kristian Blumenschein made it 6-0 with a wrist shot from the point.
Off a face-off with 10 seconds left in the frame, Kylar Hope beat Marshall on the blocker side with 8.2 remaining, as the Warriors fired 21 shots on goal in the middle period.
It was a fireworks-filled start to the third period, as Quin Foreman scored maybe the nicest goal of the night with a great little move in tight to beat Marshall upstairs just 16 seconds in.
After he was knocked down with a hit, Bryan Basilico took matters into his own hands, fighting Bennett Morrison in a spirited tilt, as Basilico was assessed an extra two minutes for slashing.
The penalty didn’t phase the Warriors, as Hope scored his second of the night on a short-handed breakaway, as the Warriors made it 9-0 just 22 seconds apart.
After the ninth goal, the Warriors focussed on the defensive side of things, and were able to help preserve Matthew Greenfield’s 27-save shutout, his second of the season.
The Warriors will take on the Smoke Eaters again on Saturday night, with puck drop at 7:30.
