Last night the Warriors entertained the home crowd at Royal LePage Place with a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Penticton Vees. Leading the way was Warriors goaltender Brock Baier who stopped 50 of 52 shots from the Vees giving the Warriors the regulation victory. Although the Warriors were heavely out shot in the hockey game, there were numerous takeaways Warriors fans should be excited about.

  1. The Addition of Eric Olson: Olson made his BCHL debut last night playing on a line with Mason Richey and Sam Anderson. Olson, 19, made an impact throwing his body and making presence known in the offensive zone. Olson’s play was so noticable, he was rewarded by Head Coach and General Manager Geoff Grimwood by being placed on the top line for a couple shifts. Look to see how Eric makes an impact tonight.

2. Forecheck: The Warriors didn’t give much time for the Vees to move the puck out of their own zone. Two out of the three goals scored for the Warriors were from Vees miscues, mainly caused by Warriors pressure in the attacking zone. This Trail club is loaded with skilled players that can score with the snap of a finger. The Warriors need to force the Smoke Eaters to move the puck quickly.

These two elements added with great goal tending is the key to a Warriors victory in Trail.

The Smoke Eaters have added a couple new faces since these two clubs met opening weekend. One of them is the former Chilliwack Chiefs forward Trevor Peca. Peca, 18, is the son of former NHL star Michael Peca, and his committed to Miami University for the 2019-20 season. Another forward the Smoke Eaters have welcomed is Max Kryski. Kryski is a former member of the West Kelowna Warriors organization as an affiliate call up during his time with the Okanagan Rockets(BCMML). Kryski, 18, spent his past season with the Prince George Cougars(WHL), but was recently cut allowing for the Smoke Eaters to pick him up. The Kelowna native scored 10 points in 62 games played last season. The Smoke Eaters had to face a very hot Chilliwack Chiefs team last night losing 4-2 in regulation. There is no doubt that Head Coach Jeff Tambellini will have his club ready to bounce back after a tough loss, and losing back to back games at home at Cominco is not part of their game plan.
