WESTSIDE CLOSES OUT PRE-SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE

The Warriors filled the back of the net in their final contest of the pre-season on Friday night.

Visiting a Salmon Arm team they’d beaten 3-2 a week previously, Westside pulled away with three goals in the third period, posting a 6-3 victory.

Brett McKinnon and Max French each scored a pair of goals for Westside, while Steve Racine played the full game in goal, stopping 21 of the 24 shots he faced.

“I think we just kept it simple” said McKinnon of his team’s third period success, adding “We got pucks deep, banged bodies, threw pucks at the net, and it worked out.”

With the win, the Warriors close out their exhibition schedule with a record of three wins and three overtime losses.

They now return to Westside for a week of practice ahead of the regular season opener on Sept. 23rd

Having found offensive success in their final tune-up, the team will continue to work on systems ahead of their debut in Trail.  “I think the D-zone is going to be the most important thing we’ll have to focus on” said McKinnon of the week ahead.

The coaching staff will also have plenty of work to do in the next seven days, with the current roster of 26 players needing to be trimmed to 21 before the season begins.
