Northern trek nets Warriors weekend split

It was an up and down weekend for the Westside Warriors.

In Quesnel for a double dip of B.C. Hockey League action, Westside dropped a 3-1 decision on Sunday after picking up a 7-5 victory on Saturday.

The Warriors failed to pick up where they left off on Sunday, however. Following a scoreless first period, Trevor Hertz got the home side on the board at 9:41 of the second. Hertz then assisted on Taylor Rovatti?s goal to give Quesnel a 2-0 lead at 13:45.

Moments later, Trevor Bailey replied for Westside, notching the Warriors lone goal at 14:05. In doing so, Bailey pulled into a tie for the team-lead in points with defenceman Justin Schultz at 14. Bailey has four goals and 10 assists, while Schultz has bulged the twine three times to go along with 11 helpers.

Millionaires leading scorer Mitchell Smith rounded out the scoring at 3:37 of the third period. Smith has eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points.

Westside outshot Quesnel 37-25, but struggled to solve Mills goalie Ryan Demharter.
