WARRIORS STONEWALLED IN POWELL RIVER

The Warriors ran into a brick wall of green and gold on Friday night, as they got shut-out by Sean Maguire and the Powell River Kings.

The Kings exhibited their league-leading defence both 5-on-5 and on special teams, holding the Warriors to just 25 shots on the night, most of them from the perimeter.

Powell River came into the game undefeated (5-0) on home ice, and improved that record courtesy of a special teams explosion.  The Kings struck four times on the powerplay, while Craig Dalrymple also notched Powell River’s ninth short-handed tally of the season.

Sean Maguire earned the shutout and a first-star nod for the Kings.  Steve Racine made 23 saves and was tagged with the loss.

Defenceman Craig Dalrymple (2G, 1A) was named the second star, while Evan Richardson (GWG) was the third star.

“I don’t think we played that bad” said forward Shaun Hochhausen after the game.  “It was just a couple of tough breaks on the poweplay goals, but we stuck with them for the most part.”

The Warriors wrap-up their 2-game coastal road swing with a matchup against the Capitals in Cowichan Valley on Saturday night.

“It should be a good one” says Hochhausen, adding “we’re going to come out hard after a loss, for sure.”
