WARRIORS SCORE ANOTHER WIN IN TRAIL

The Westside Warriors posted another strong second period in Trail on Saturday night, to claim their second victory in as many nights over the Smoke Eaters.

After a 7-3 win on Friday, Westside struck four times in the middle frame to set up a 5-1 win over their arch-rivals in Saturday’s rematch.

19 year-old rookie Connor Dempsey led the way with a pair of powerplay goals, his first two BCHL tallies.

“It definitely feels good to get the first ones out of the way so early in the season to get your confidence up” says the Massachusetts native, who seems to be adjusting quickly to the pace and physicality of junior hockey.

Tyson Witala also scored his first goal as a Warrior, while Brayden Sherbinin and Travis Blanleil rounded out the Westside scoring. Luke Bertolucci notched the lone Smoke Eaters goal on a first period Trail powerplay.

Steve Racine earned his second consecutive win in the Warriors net, stopping all but one of the 28 shots fired his way.

I thought we played great” says Racine of his team’s effort over weekend.  “I can’t say enough about how well our defence is playing … it makes my job a lot easier.”

Westside once again won the battle of special teams, going 2/3 on the powerplay while holding Trail to one goal on six opportunities.

The Tribe look to continue their early season success with another road game on Wednesday night in Salmon Arm.  Their home opener is set for Friday night against Vernon.
