Warriors Edge Terriers in OT

Keelan Williams made some of the biggest saves the West Kelowna Warriors have seen this season to rob numerous Portage Terriers and Jonathan Desbiens scored the winner in overtime to give the Warriors a 3-2 win on Tuesday afternoon at the Western Canada Cup.

Williams, playing in place of Matthew Greenfield who was hit three times against Brooks on Sunday, stepped up once again like he did in Game 6 of the Fred Page Cup finals making a number of big saves including one with just 1.5 seconds to go in the third.

Bryan Basilico scored a pair of first period power-play goals, deflecting a Jake Harrison point shot for the first, and banging home a rebound for his second.

The Terriers responded with Brett Orr’s goal late in the first period, and an early marker from Adam Wowryk in the second, before the game settled to be scoreless for the next 39:26 before Desbiens won it in OT.

Desbiens cut off the half wall and walked out front, beating Nathan Park and giving the Warriors another 2 points in the standings, to bring their total to 5. (3 points regulation win, 2 points OT/SO win).

West Kelowna will take Wednesday off before finishing the round robin with a game against the Melfort Mustangs. West Kelowna can still finish anywhere between first and fourth in the round-robin, but are guaranteed a playoff spot on Saturday.
