Max French scored twice in the first period and added two assists as the Warriors won 6-1 in Trail on Saturday.
Marcus Basara also notched a goal, an assist, and a fight – for his first career ‘Gordie Howe hat-trick.’
David Pope, Ben Tegtmeyer, and Devon Hascarl also scored for the Warriors, while Seb Lloyd chipped in three assists.
Steven Myland earned his first BCHL victory in his third start with the Tribe, stopping all but one of the 31 shots sent his way.
“I feel really good” smiled Myland after the game. “It was a really good game tonight by the boys, and when you get six goals for it makes it a bit easier.”
The 6-1 win over Trail came after a 6-2 triumph over Powell River on Friday, giving the Warriors 12 goals on the weekend. West Kelowna is now the highest scoring team in the BCHL, with 134 goals scored through 37 games.
“We were just excited to play” suggested Max French of his team’s offensive outburst.
French also pointed to the new additions of Danny Gayle and Mitch Nardi as perfect fits for the Warriors, adding “they’ve added a great dynamic to our team, but they’re also great guys in the room.”
The victory marks the first time since October that West Kelowna has earned back-to-back victories.
With the win, West Kelowna is now within three points of Merritt for second place in the Interior Conference. At the same time, the Warriors are now five points up on fourth place Salmon Arm, giving the club a little breathing room heading into the stretch drive.
Still, French believes his team is primed to make a strong push late in the year.
“We’ve got some injured guys almost ready to return, and I think we’ve made a big statement to the league this weekend.”
