WARRIORS CLIPPED AGAIN – AN OT LOSS IN SALMON ARM

The bad news continued for the Westside Warriors on Friday, as they dropped a 3-2 overtime decision in Salmon Arm.

For the 5th consecutive game the Tribe outshot their opponents (38-23), only to lose for a 6th straight outing.

Kurt Williams was excellent in the Silverbacks’ net, making 36 saves for a second star nod.  The netminder stood tall, particularly in the third period with the Warriors controlling the majority of the play.  Steve Racine was named the third star in a losing effort in the Westside goal.

Devin Muller was a well-earned first-star in the game, notching two goals including the overtime winner for the Apes.  Brock Balson also scored a powerplay goal for Salmon Arm, while ‘AP’ Devon Hascarl and Reid Simmonds tallied for Westside.

“It’s frustrating” admits Captain Izaak Berglund of the extended losing skid.  Still, the defenceman sees the light at the end of the tunnel.  “We’re making strides, the last few games we’ve played well … we just need to get over that hump and win a game.”

The defeat stings even more with the loss of defenceman Josh Monk.  Playing just his 4th game since being acquired from Cowichan, the blue-liner appeared to re-aggravate a knee injury and had to be helped off the ice.  He’s currently listed as day-to-day, and will be re-assessed in the coming days.

The Warriors wrap up a difficult week with a home game against the BCHL-leading Penticton Vees on Saturday night.

“We’re still confident” Berglund insists, pointing to strong efforts in the past few losses.  “We need to take that confidence we have deep down and show it on the ice.”
