WEST KELOWNA, B.C. – The Prince George Spruce Kings shut down the West Kelowna Warriors by a score of 3-1 in front of over 1300 fans inside Royal LePage Place Saturday night.

The Warriors got themselves into penalty trouble allowing Corey Cunningham to get the Spruce Kings on the board early. Warriors unable to get much in terms of scoring chances but managed to still get 9 shots on Spruce Kings goaltender Carter Woodside who stood tall.

The Warriors got back on track in the second when the rookie trio of Tyler Cristall, John Evans and Brendan Pigeon went to work. Evans started the rush, cross iced a pass to Cristall who threw the puck towards the net, the puck would go directly off the stick of Brendan Pigeon and in to tie it up at one. Minutes later the Spruce Kings would dump the puck inside the Warriors zone, but instead of the puck wrapping around the boards, the puck hit a groove on the zamboni gate redirecting the puck into the slot allowing Mason Reeves to get the go ahead goal allowing the Spruce Kings to regain the lead heading into the dressing room.

The Warriors would be the better team in the third period but Spruce Kings goaltender Carter Woodside didn’t give up any rebounds or make any mistakes. The Warriors would have one opportunity late with the extra attacker but would allow an empty net goal to give the Spruce Kings a 3-1 win. The Spruce Kings are now 3 points up on the Warriors in the BCHL standings and the Victoria Grizzlies are now 5 points up on the Warriors after they got a 3-2 regulation victory over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs Saturday evening. Things don’t get easier for the Warriors next weekend when they face the Trail Smoke Eaters next Friday and then the Penticton Vees next Sunday.
