Mennear Wins WCC Awards

Brett Mennear was the big winner for the West Kelowna Warriors at the Western Canada Cup Awards Banquet on Friday night, being named to the tournament All-Star team, and a co-winner of the Top Scorer award.

Mennear, scored four times and added two assists in four round robin games for the Warriors, including a three-point effort against the Melfort Mustangs Thursday. Ty Mappin of the Brooks Bandits was the other player with six points.

Jeff Mallot (Brooks) was named the tournaments Top Forward, while Brett Orr (Portage) was the Top Defenseman and Garrett Hughson (Brooks) the Top Goaltender.

Joining Mennear on the All-Star Team were Brad Bowles (Portage) and Jeff Mallott (Brooks) up front, Orr and Cale Makar (Brooks) on the back end, and Hughson in goal.

The Western Canada Cup MVP was Brad Bowles.

A brand new award this year, a player from each League Champion earns a $500 scholarship for the All-Academic All-Canadian Champions Team award. From West Kelowna, Lane Gilliss earned the honour. The 16-year old forward is actually from Estevan, and his family as been in full support all week long.

The West Kelowna Warriors take on the Brooks Bandits for the Western Canada Cup Championship on Saturday night at 6 PM BC time. The winner will advance to the Royal Bank Cup, while the loser will have a second chance to qualify for the national tournament on Sunday afternoon. Catch the action at www.mixlr.com/bchlwarriors
