Hall of Famers take over Westside

Royal LePage Place, the home of the Westside Warriors of the BCHL, was home to warriors from another era last week as a dozen hockey legends took to the ice of RLP.
The Hockey Greats Fantasy Camp hosted by Bob Bourne, the former New York Islanders great, completed its second year in West Kelowna with a wrap up game that raised money for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Over 500 fans took in the game, featuring the likes of Bryan Trottier, Billy Smith, Clark Gillies, Dale Hawerchuk, Cliff Ronning and more, with $4,500 raised for the charity.
“It was a great weekend and great to see all of those NHL hall of fame players,” said Warriors president and general manager Gary Gelinas, who took in some of the festivities. “I can't wait for our Warriors to get back onto the ice.”
The Westside Warriors training camp is coming up at the end of the month as the team gets set for the 2009-10 B.C. Hockey League season.
The season opener is in Prince George Sept. 11 while the Warriors home opener is Sept. 18.
