GAME PREVIEW: Battle At Top Of Standings Sees Warriors Visit Eagles In Surrey

The West Kelowna Warriors (26-10-7-0) begin a two-game weekend on the Lower Mainland as they get set to face-off against the top seeded team in the BCHL in the Surrey Eagles (32-5-2-0) on Friday night at the South Surrey Arena.

Looking Back:

The Warriors make their way into the weekend following a 6-2 triumph over the Langley Rivermen on Monday afternoon in a Family Day matinee win at Royal LePage Place. Trent Wilson scored twice while Viggo Nordström, Jackson Kyrkostas, Felix Caron and Johannes Løkkeberg added singles in the victory. Rorke Applebee pushed aside 24 of the 26 shots thrown his way in his 18th win of the season in between the pipes.

Surrey enters play on Friday night after earning their league-leading 32nd win of the season in a 4-1 triumph over the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Sunday evening at South Surrey Arena. Savek Brar, Caden Cranston, Jagjeevan Phangura and Aaron Schwartz each found the back of the net while Jaiden Sharma made 35 saves on 36 shots in his 6th win of the season.

  • Trent Wilson – Forward – Delta, BC – Robert Morris University

After playing in 83 regular season games and 16 playoff games with the Eagles, Wilson makes his return and plays his former team for the first time on Friday night. The Robert Morris commit has reached a career high in goals and points in his first season with the Warriors and is coming off of a two-goal performance against the Rivermen on Monday afternoon, now sitting at 15 tallies this season.

  • Landen Hilditch – Defenseman – Surrey, BC – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)

Another former Eagle who has had this game circled on his calendar, Hilditch will play his former squad for the first time as well. The RPI commit and Surrey, BC native played in 40 games with his hometown team before being acquired by the Warriors and has hit career highs in goals, assists and points this season where he has amassed 3 goals, 8 assists and 11 points from the blueline and returns to the lineup after missing the last three games.

Surrey:

  • Caden Cranston – Forward – Rochester, New York – Merrimack College

No one is having a better offensive season than Cranston, in the BCHL for his first season in the league and has scored 24 goals to go along with 38 assists for 62 points, leading the league in that department. The Merrimack commit has registered 11 games of three or more points this season while earning a goal and three assists for four points on a current three-game point streak.

  • Ajeet Gundarah – Goaltender – Richmond, BC – Sacred Heart University

Playing a large part in Surrey holding the lowest goals against in the league at 83, Gundarah has posted incredibly strong numbers this season. The SHU commit is in his third season in the league and his first with the Eagles has posted a 22-4-0 record to go along with a 1.81 goals against average and a .941 save percentage. The Richmond, BC product has won 10 of his last 11 starts and has allowed more than three goals just once this season.

The Warriors and Eagles will meet in their lone matchup of the season at South Surrey Arena on Friday night. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 PM with the game being broadcasted live on AM 1150 as well as streamed online on FloHockey.
