The BCHL has taken notice.
The BC Hockey League announced its 2012-13 All-star teams on Wednesday.
Four Warriors made the cut – with Seb Lloyd and Marcus Basara named to the first-team, and Tyler Briggs and Josh Monk named to the second-team.
Seb Lloyd has notched 61 points after 49 games this year, but says he had no idea the announcement was even pending until he got a text message from his brother Stuart on Wednesday morning.
“I was pretty happy finding out” the 18 year-old smiles, adding “it’s a great honour.”
Lloyd admits he and his teammates felt a need for redemption after missing out on the 2011-12 BCHL playoffs. Lloyd also missed 31 games due to injury, and says he was hungry to make amends this time around.
“I knew if I stayed healthy I’d get the opportunity to play with some really good players” he posits.
Lloyd’s linemate Marcus Basara, also a first-team all-star, says his chemistry with Lloyd was pivotal to their mutual success this year. “Our success went hand in hand” he nods.
The 20 year-old leads West Kelowna with 66 points on the season, good for 7th in league scoring.
But Basara also knows his whole team helped contribute to his individual accomplishments. “Having such a good group of guys is a big part of it.”
Still, despite attaining individual accolades, Basara and Lloyd insist they are focused on bigger goals.
Basara feels the Warriors are peaking at the right time, with the playoffs just a week away.
“It’s not just our skill” he claims. “We also have a group of guys that are willing to battle to excited for each other every night. “That’s what I’m most excited about.
