EXASPERATED WARRIORS FALL IN PENTICTON

The Westside Warriors played another strong road game, but lost their third straight on Friday night.

Visiting a Penticton Vees squad depleted by the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge, the Warriors fell behind the eight-ball early after a poor first period.

But down just 2-1 after 20 minutes of play, the Warriors outshot their hosts 29-10 through the final two periods (and 32-25 overall) but could only beat Vees netminder Mike Garteig one more time.

Midway through the third period, affiliate Alex Jewell found the back of the net for Penticton – and his tally would hold up as the game winner in a 4-2 Vees triumph.

Penticton also got goals from Steven Fogerty and Zachary Lindsay, while Michael King and Max French responded for Westside.

Garteig was named the 1st star for his 30-save performance, while Steve Racine suffered the loss between the pipes for the Warriors.

At 7-7-0-1 on the season, Westside has now slipped to 6th place in the tight interior conference.

“We have to dig deep inside ourselves” says defenceman Ben Betker of the team’s predicament.  “We have to find a way … we have to battle for 60 minutes” adding “This is a good test for us.”

The Warriors look to return to the win column when they host the Trail Smoke Eaters on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
