NEWS: GOALTENDER JUSTIN KATZ COMMITS TO THE WARRIORS, DEAL MCCANN TO BLACKFALDS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 21st, 2021

WEST KELOWNA B.C. – The West Kelowna Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce the commitment of goaltender Justin Katz (‘04) for the 2021-22 season. In a corresponding transaction, the Warriors have dealt Corey McCann to the Blackfalds Bulldogs(AJHL) in exchange for future considerations.  “We believe Corey is going to get the opportunity to play the key minutes he needs in order to attract opportunities to earn a scholarship.” said Warriors General Manager & Head Coach Simon Ferguson. “We want to thank Corey for his hard work and wish him all the best moving forward.”

Justin Katz impressed Warriors scouts during his time after two seasons with Deerfield Academy (USHS Prep). “We are very excited for Justin to join the Warriors family”, said Warriors General Manager & Head Coach Simon Ferguson. “Justin is a very technically sound goalie who never quits on loose pucks and competes at all times. We watched him a lot throughout the season and was one of the best 04 goalies in US Prep. We had an opportunity to bring him to camp and he has continued to impress us on and off the ice. ”

The 6’1, 185 pound goaltender is looking forward to finally getting some games in after a long season of training. “We were pretty locked down at school and didn’t get to play many games, which was very challenging mentally,” said Katz, “but we practiced and lifted everyday so I improved a lot on and off the ice. Warriors fans can expect a goalie who is very technically solid but who competes for every puck and will do whatever it takes to win. I’m a very competitive person, so I’m excited to get going this season and I’m looking forward to competing with the guys ”. Katz spent time playing alongside current Warriors blue liner Charles Alexis Legault and Alexi Van Houtte-Cachero. “I train with Charles-Alexis Legault a lot and he had nothing but good things to say about the city and the organization. I knew I wanted to go the the BCHL because I felt I needed to take a leap in my development and get more exposure. West K seemed like the perfect place to do that”.

The Warriors would like to welcome Justin and his family to the City of West Kelowna and the Warriors organization. Season Tickets and Single Game Tickets are now available online or direct from the Warriors office. For more info visit the Warriors website or call (250)769-7051.
