Westside Daze kicks off this week in and around Memorial Park in West Kelowna. The West Kelowna Warriors BCHL and JPHL Okanagan Warriors are excited to take part once again in this years parade.
The annual West Kelowna family festival opens Thursday with the opening of Shooting Star Amusements on the Westbank First Nation property adjacent to Memorial Park.
The fair opens at 3 p.m. Thursday and continues 3 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
While Westside Daze itself has been scaled back, minus the car show and Sunday morning community worship celebration, there is still plenty to see and do Friday evening and throughout the day Saturday.
The main stage at the Annette Beaudreau Amphitheatre will feature musical entertainment throughout.
Jackson Hollow and Totally Twain, a tribute to Shania Twain, kick things off Friday evening with Appaloosa and Munro Patrick highlighting the music entertainment Saturday evening.
The annual Westside Daze parade is still one of the highlights of the weekend, albeit with a slightly modified route due to the closure of the Butt Road/Old Okanagan Highway intersection.
The parade will now begin at Bering Road and Old Okanagan Highway, make its way south to Drought Road, then north on Brown Road, ending at Bering.
The kid’s zone returns to Memorial Park from noon to 4 p.m. and will feature games and activities for kids of all ages as well as entertainment on the main stage all afternoon.
The day concludes with a drone show over the park at 10 p.m.
While the event continues to be run by volunteers with the Westside Celebration Society, the city says it has taken a more hands-on approach.
“For this year’s event, the committee requested extra support in coordinating some of the music and entertainment and we were happy to assist with Friday night music,” city officials said in an email.
“It is thanks to the society members and the many amazing volunteers, whose efforts make this event happen each and every year, along with the talented artists, generous sponsors and thousands of other partners, supporters, participants and attendees from throughout our community, that Westside Daze is the great success this it is.”
