SALMON ARM B.C. – The West Kelowna Warriors shutout the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 2-0 and split the two game weekend set.

Heading into this game Warriors Head Coach and General Manager Simon Ferguson elected to use 11 forwards and seven blue liners to inject a little more fire power on the back end, especially with the likes of Simon Tassy on the other end of the ice. Both the first and second periods were scoreless. Each club traded scoring chances in the second frame but were unable to beat Warriors goaltender Justin Katz or Silverbacks goaltender Owen Say. Silverbacks led in shots 18-14 after two periods of play.

The Warriors would finally solve the Silverbacks in the third frame. In the tailed of a Warriors powerplay Nick Ardanaz would fire a shot from the point which would get redirected off Alexi Van Houtte-Cachero’s stick and in to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. In the final minute with the Silverbacks net empty Tyler Cristall would block a pass allowing John Evans to score the goal to finish off the Silverbacks. Final score 2-0 Warriors. Rookie goaltender Justin Katz recorded his first career BCHL shutout after stopping all 26 shots he faced Saturday night.

The Warriors are back in action next Tuesday when they host the Penticton Vees. Puck drop 7:00pm PST from Royal LePage Place. Catch broadcasts on BCHL TV (formally HockeyTV) or tune into the Warriors MixIr radio station.
