WEST KELOWNA – The Trail Smoke Eaters edge the West Kelowna Warriors 4-3 in a  shootout Friday night.

The game didn’t get off to a great start for the Warriors. Kent Johnson was able to score a pair of goals to give the Smoke Eaters an early 2-0 lead, prompting Warriors Head Coach and General Manager Brandon West to take a timeout. After the timeout the Warriors would answer back with Trevor Adams playing the puck behind the net and playing the puck off the back of Smoke Eaters defender Logan Terness and in to cut the lead. The Warriors would add another one from a John Evans steal in the Smoke Eaters zone. Evans would wire a wrist shot that would go off a Smoke Eaters player right to the stick of Max Bulawka who was able to put it past Terness to tie the game at two. The Smoke Eaters would add one late with only 12 seconds remaining from their Captain Philippe Lapointe to regain the lead heading into the dressing room.

The Smoke Eaters and Warriors would both get quality scoring chances in the second frame but Brock Baier and Logan Terness stood tall and the score remained 3-2 after two periods of play.

The Warriors needed a momentum shift in the third. After a couple penalty kill they got just that. After the Smoke Eaters were able to win an attacking zone faceoff the Warriors Lucas Cullen and Brandon Dent would jump up into the play stealing the puck after the faceoff win forming a 2 on 1 giving Brandon Dent room for a toe drag wrist shot beating Terness to tie the game up at three. The Warriors would get a power play with 2:11 remaining in the third but the Smoke Eaters were able to kill it off forcing overtime.

In the extra frame the Warriors would once again get a power play chance late but couldn’t get a good shot on Terness. The Smoke Eaters would kill yet another late Warriors power play forcing the shootout. In the shootout Smoke Eaters forward Owen Ozar would be the only player to score allowing the Smoke Eaters to collect the two points and the 4-3 victory.
