Vernon, B.C.- The Salmon Arm Silverbacks late comeback proves to be the difference as they pick up the extra point Sunday night after winning 6-5 in a shootout.

The Warriors got off to a hot start with Marcus Joughin scoring the Warriors first shorthanded goal of the year to make it 1-0 Warriors. Only two minutes later Corey McCann would rush through the neutral zone and feed Zach Brooks who would wire a wrist shot past Silverbacks goaltender Owen Say to make it 2-0 Warriors. The Salmon Arm Silverbacks would have a total of 3 power plays in the first but could only show 7 shots on goal over 20 minutes.

The second frame was all Silverbacks. They would go on another 3 power plays and the Warriors would kill each one putting the Silverbacks 0/6 on the man advantage. The Silverbacks however were able to score a trio of goals to make it 3-2. Goals scored from Cameron Recchi, Sullivan Mack and Simon Tassy. The Silverbacks would put up 20 shots on goal on Warriors goaltender Zach Bennett in the second frame. Warriors would find a way to tie the game up with under 30 seconds remaining after stealing the puck and going on a 4 on 1 where Dylan Brooks would feed Tyson Jugnauth walking in all alone scoring his 2nd of the pod season tying the game at 3.

Warriors needed a big push in period 3 with the Silverbacks being a much stronger third period team in the pod season. It started with a quick power play goal from Tyler Cristall to give the Warriors the lead. Only 14 seconds later Silverbacks forward Simon Tassy would capitalize on Corey McCann falling down allowing him to go on a breakaway and beat Zach Bennett to tie it up once again. Late in the 3rd period, the Warriors would go on the power play where Marcus Joughin would fire a shot redirected off a Silverbacks player and in to make it 5-4 with over a minute to go. With the net empty on the Silverbacks side Warriors forward Zach Brooks had a clear shot to the empty net and it ended up hitting the post. Silverbacks would throw an outlet pass to Simon Tassy who scored a very similar goal to the one earlier in the period to force overtime.

Overtime would solve nothing so teams would go on a shootout. Both goaltenders were flawless in the shootout forcing extra shooters. In the fifth round of the shootout Silverbacks would send out team Captain and blue liner Hunter Sansbury who finally beat Zach Bennett giving the Salmon Arm Silverbacks their fourth straight victory over the West Kelowna Warriors in the Pod season.

The Warriors will be  getting right back at it Monday. They’ll face the Vernon Vipers. Puck Drop is 7:30pm from Kal-Tire Place. Tune into the action on BCHLTV (formally HockeyTV) or on the free internet radio stream on Mixlr.
