OCTOBER 5th, 2018

SALMON ARM B.C. – The West Kelowna Warriors failed to get the gorilla off their backs in Salmon Arm Friday night.

1st Period:

The Warriors looked stagnant in their own zone giving the puck away creating numerous scoring chances for the Silverbacks. Fortunately goaltender Connor Hopkins was able to make two incredible saves to keep it scoreless, but not for long. Off a sudden bounce in the Warriors zone, Noah Wakeford was able to find Hudson Schandor for the game’s first goal giving the Silverbacks a 1-0 lead at the 14 minute mark. West Kelowna would answer back with a much needed goal by Lucas Cullen tying it up at one a piece to finish off the first. Shots however were 15-5 in favor of the Silverbacks.

2nd Period:

The second didn’t start well for the Warriors with two goals for the Silverbacks in the first 5 minutes of the period. Silverbacks rookies John Little and Aiden Jenner both cashed in even strength to take a 3-1 lead. Connor Hopkins once again stood tall between the pipes with the shots on goal totaling 30-10 after the second.

3rd Period:

Needing a little spark, the Warriors got their first powerplay of the game where they moved the puck well in the attacking zone and got five shots on Silverbacks net-minder Ethan Langenegger. Five minutes later at the 8:43 mark of the 3rd Bennett Norlin streaked in around the Silverbacks defender and was able to beat Langenegger to cut the lead to one. Only 45 seconds later Hudson Schandor cashed in with his second of the game and the two goal lead was restored by the Silverbacks, but the momentum was still on the Warriors side. Geoff Grimwood’s squad started throwing everything they could at the net but it wasn’t enough. At the 4 minute mark the Warriors pulled the goaltender and thats when Matthew Verboon ended the game for good with 5th of the season giving the Silverbacks the 5-2 victory Friday night.
