Vernon, B.C. –  The West Kelowna Warriors erased an early two goal deficit but ultimately came up short, falling 6-4 to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Thursday afternoon.

The Warriors found themselves on the wrong side of a first period filled with tons of offence. After giving up the game’s opening goal early, West Kelowna responded with a Riley Sharun powerplay marker. That lead lasted mere minutes before Sullivan Mack restored the Silverbacks’ lead. Salmon Arm pulled further ahead courtesy of Daniel Panetta. Despite outshooting the Silverbacks 12-11, the Warriors headed into the first intermission down a pair of goals.

The Warriors got to work in the second to close the gap. Cameron Hicklin followed the bouncing puck and was able to bring the Warriors back to within one. Johnny Derrick put on a goaltender’s clinic in the second. Coming up with seven saves during a West Kelowna penalty kill to keep the Warriors within striking distance. With 1:05 left in the second Tyler Cristall wired home a shot on the powerplay erasing the Silverbacks lead.

Salmon Arm restored their lead as the halfway point of the third period approached. A turnover in the neutral zone led to Philippe Jacques being sprung on breakaway. The Backs then restored their two goal lead just 1:46 later with Noah Serdachny’s shorthanded marker. Carter Wilkie cut the lead in half in the final minutes, scoring his team leading sixth goal of the shortened pod season. The Silverbacks added an empty netter and the final buzzer sounded with the Backs leaving the ice with a 6-4 victory.

West Kelowna returns to action tomorrow, Friday April 16th, with a 7:00pm start. The game will broadcasted on BCHL TV and  available for a free internet radio stream on Mixlr.
