POWELL RIVER B.C. – The Powell River Kings stood tall in their rematch versus the West Kelowna Warriors Monday night.

It was a disastrous start to the game for the Powell River Kings only 1:46 into the first period where a neutral zone turnover lead to a Chase Dubois breakaway goal to make it 1-0 Warriors. The Kings would answer back just over three minutes later with Ryan Brushett scoring his BCHL leading 37th goal of the season to tie it up at one. The Kings would continue to pressure the Warriors in the attacking zone midway through the period. A sharp angle shot from Kings forward Rowan Miller would deflect off the skate of Wyatt Head allowing Ethan Kimbell to put the puck past Connor Hopkins making it 2-1 for the Powell River Kings after the first period.

The second period saw a push from the Kings. First it was a powerplay goal from Powell River Kings defenseman Jayden Lee to make it 3-1. Then things went from bad to worse for the Warriors. Andrew Viggars left the game with a leg injury after sustaining a hit on the neutral zone boards, and Garrett Ewert dropped the gloves with Kings defenseman Ethan Martini which ejected Ewert out of the game. This left Warriors Head Coach Brandon West with limited options on the back end. Only Lucas Bahn, Anthony Bishop, Wyatt Head, and Austin Chorney remained for available defenders, and with under 5 minutes to go in the period Chorney took a penalty forcing players like Lucas Bahn to stay on the ice for the duration of the Kings man advantage. The Kings would capitalize with their second power play goal of the evening with Neal Samanski scoring his 10th of the season making it 4-1 for the Kings after two periods.

The Warriors came out fast to start the third period scoring a quick pair of goals. First it was a Garrett Worth pass down low to Willie Reim who tipped the puck off a Kings defender and in to cut the lead to two. Then after the Warriors went on the powerplay Wyatt Head fired a wrist shot past Kings goaltender Matteo Paler Chow to cut the lead to only one goal with 16 minutes still to go in the third period. The momentum stopped there for the Warriors with the Kings pressuring in the Warriors zone allowing the former Penticton Vees forward Matthew Byrne who would restore the two goal lead for the Kings halfway through the third period. The Warriors would have numerous chances down low in the Kings zone in the final five minutes but couldn’t beat Paler Chow. Mike Hardman would score with 5 seconds remaining cutting the lead to one, but the clock was against the Warriors in this game allowing the Kings to escape with a 5-4 victory.

Shots on goal 38-32 in favor of the Warriors.
