WEST KELOWNA, B.C. – The West Kelowna Warriors Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce that forwards Sam Anderson (’00), Brandon Dent (’01) along with defenseman Declan Douthart (’00) have committed to the club for the 2018/19 season.

All three players suited up in the Warriors Spring Camp over the past weekend at Royal LePage Place in West Kelowna, which saw fast-paced and highly competitive action in the three-day camp spanning from April 20th to 22nd.

Dent, 16, spent 52 games with the Cariboo Cougars and was one of most productive forwards in the BC Major Midget League. The Prince George, BC native scored 29 goals while posting 41 assists for 70 points in that span. Dent was 2nd in team scoring for the Cougars during the 2017/18 season with 59 points and ranked 6th overall in the BCMML in scoring.

The 5’6”, 135-pound forward added a pair of goals and a pair of assists for 4 points in 7 playoff games with the Cougars and adds a gritty element to his game with 17 penalty minutes in the playoffs. “Brandon plays a hard, aggressive style on both sides of the puck and can create plenty of offence,” said the Warriors bench boss, “He’s a skilled, heads up kind of player that will fit in very well to our lineup.”

Anderson, 17, comes to West Kelowna after playing two seasons with the Calgary Buffaloes Midget AAA squad in the Alberta Midget Hockey League (AMHL). The Calgary, Alberta native suited up in 66 games with the Buffaloes, tallying 25 goals and 33 points for 58 points as well as adding 12 games of playoff experience in which the forward scored 4 goals and added 3 assists for 7 points. Anderson also has collected 3 assists in 2 games in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) with the Okotoks Oilers and the Calgary Canucks.

The 5’9”, 175-pound forward spent 2017/18 as the captain of the Buffaloes, something that Warriors Head Coach and General Manager Rylan Ferster and the rest of the Warriors staff values very highly, “Sam plays all three zones of the ice extremely well and has terrific hockey sense”, commented Ferster, “Being the captain of the Buffaloes last season, Sam possesses outstanding leadership qualities as well.”

Douthart, 17, is no stranger to the Okanagan despite hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba. The blue liner has played the last three seasons at the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy in the Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL). Douthart played the 2017/18 season with the Midget Prep squad at POE, amassing 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points in 22 games of action.

Wearing the Warriors crest will be something familiar for the 6’0”, 165-pound rearguard as he made his BCHL debut in West Kelowna on March 6th in Game #4 of the Warriors first round playoff series against the Trail Smoke Eaters. “Declan is someone who makes a good first pass out of his zone and has plenty of offensive upside”, stated Ferster, “He’s a slick skater and can make an immediate impact in our league.”

The Warriors would like to welcome Sam, Brandon and Declan and their families to the Warriors organization and the City of West Kelowna.

More announcements are expected to come throughout the summer so Warriors fans can stay tuned to the website and all social media outlets for more information.
