NEWS: Stevenson Invited To Team Canada West Selection Camp

WEST KELOWNA, B.C. – The West Kelowna Warriors Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce that forward Chase Stevenson (‘99) has been invited to Team Canada West selection camp ahead of the 2017 World Junior ‘A’ Challenge (WJAC).

Stevenson, 18, has tallied 6 goals and 16 points over 26 games thus far in the 2017/18 season while registering 16 goals and 36 points in 62 career BCHL games.

The West Kelowna, B.C. native is one of 60 hopefuls to the Team Canada West selection camp, which will be held from December 2nd-5th at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta ahead of the 2017 World Junior ‘A’ Challenge that will take place in Truro, Nova Scotia beginning on December 10th.

Warriors head coach and general manager Rylan Ferster, who has coached and GM’ed at the WJAC, is happy for his 2nd year forward, “Chase has been a very good 200 foot player for us all year,” commented Ferster, “He is very responsible in all three zones and plays on the powerplay. It’s a great opportunity for him.”

” I am extremely excited to be attending the upcoming World Junior ‘A’ camp in Calgary,” said Stevenson, one of the 28 BCHL players heading to the camp in just over two weeks, “Going into the season, one of my main goals was to make Team Canada West.”

“I feel honoured to have the opportunity to complete one of my goals,” continued Stevenson “Although exciting, I know I still have a lot of work to do in order to make the team and I couldn’t be more thrilled for the challenge.”

The Team Canada West hopefuls will gather in Calgary on Saturday, December 2nd for the camp of practices and scrimmages that will run until Tuesday, December 5th with team taking the ice for their first game of the WJAC on Sunday, December 10th against the Czech Republic.

The Warriors (15-10-0-1) return back home to Royal LePage Place to begin a two-game weekend and kick off Parents Weekend as they host the Merritt Centennials on Friday night for a 7:00 PM face-off.
