West Kelowna, BC – The Warriors continued their winning ways on their five game homestand on Friday night at Royal LePage Place against the Okotoks Oilers, picking up a clutch 3-1 win over the visitors from Alberta.
After the Oilers opened the scoring in the first period, the Warriors were able to respond on the powerplay in the final minutes of the frame. With Jackson Kyrkostas and Jack Sadowski working the puck along the perimeter, the two were able to cycle back and forth before Kyrkostas found Ian Alonso at the hashmarks, who ripped a lethal one timer over the right arm of goaltender Olivier Ciarlo to tie the game up at one a piece.
Following West Kelowna’s equalizer, the game would remain scoreless for the next 39 minutes. After a chance in front of the net, the puck was worked to the half wall, where Elias Callgren was able to knock the puck loose down to the bottom of the circle for Ben Miller, who fed cross crease for Tyler Grahme. Grahme pumped a hard one timer past Ciarlo with two minutes and change remaining in regulation time. Jackson Kyrkostas added an empty netter before the final buzzer to give West K a 3-1 victory.
With the win, the Warriors move from eighth to seventh in the BCHL’s Interior Conference standings, leap frogging the Oilers in the process. The Warriors continue their homestand on Sunday afternoon, when they welcome the Blackfalds Bulldogs to RLP for the first time ever. Puckdrop is scheduled for 2:30.
