Crusaders Blank Warriors 3–0, Halt Push for First
The West Kelowna Warriors’ bid to overtake the Cowichan Valley Capitals for first place in the league hit a roadblock Friday night, as the Sherwood Park Crusaders skated to a 3–0 shutout victory on home ice.
The Crusaders wasted no time getting on the board. Just 49 seconds into the opening period, Braeden O’Keefe found space in the slot and buried a shot past Warriors goaltender Angelo Zol to give Sherwood Park an early 1–0 lead.
The momentum stayed firmly with the Crusaders throughout the first period. West Kelowna struggled to generate sustained pressure while Sherwood Park continued to tilt the ice. Zol was the lone bright spot for the Warriors early, turning aside a barrage of chances to keep the deficit at one heading into the first intermission.
The second period saw much of the same, with Sherwood Park controlling play and forcing Zol to stay sharp. The Warriors netminder continued to battle, but late in the frame Michael Mikan extended the Crusaders’ lead, finding the back of the net to make it 2–0 heading into the third.
Sherwood Park added insurance in the final period on the power play, striking with just one second remaining in the Warriors’ penalty kill to push the lead to 3–0.
Despite their efforts, West Kelowna struggled to generate offense all night. The Warriors were limited to just a single power play opportunity, which failed to produce many quality chances. Meanwhile, the Crusaders capitalized on the man advantage, finishing the night 1-for-4 on their power plays.
Zol was a standout in defeat, stopping 32 of 35 shots, but the Warriors couldn’t find the offensive support needed to mount a comeback.
West Kelowna will look to bounce back quickly as they face the Spruce Grove Saints tomorrow night. Puck drop is set for 6:00 PM MDT, and fans can catch the action on FloHockey while cheering on their West Kelowna Warriors.
