The West Kelowna Warriors couldn’t rebound from a rough 2nd period as they dropped an 8-5 decision in Trail on Saturday night.

The Warriors started the game off with energy as they were all over the Smoke Eaters in the early part of the first period and that pressure resulted in the game’s first goal.

Quin Foreman worked for a puck behind the goal line and spotted Connor Sodergren in the slot, who made no mistake for his first goal of the season and a 1-0 Warrior lead just 3:07 into the game.

Trail tied the game on a goal from Kale Howarth on the power play before the Warriors took the lead back before the period was out courtesy of Marshall Wilton’s first career BCHL goal on a scramble at Smokies goaltender Zach Dyment’s blocker side.

The 2nd period would be the demise for the Warriors on this night as Trail would score four times to the Warriors once and take a 5-3 lead into the third period.

Luke Santerno, Josh Laframboise, Jack Sitzman and Tyson Slater all tallied in the middle stanza to put Trail ahead while Jared Marino added the only marker for the Warriors in the frame.

Trail continued it’s scoring frenzy in the with Ross Armour finding the back of the goal to make it 6-3 Trail before Howarth and Slater potted their second goals of the night putting the Smokies up 8-3.

Jared Marino added his second goal of the game followed by Quin Foreman tallying his first goal to make the final 8-5 in favour of the Smoke Eaters.

The Warriors will take a week off before they are back in action Saturday, September 17th when they host the Vernon Vipers at Royal LePage Place. Puck drop is 7:00 pm.
