Warriors Edge Vees on Home Ice

The West Kelowna Warriors got one game closer in the Interior Division Final with a 2-1 victory over the Penticton Vees on Monday night, as the Vees continue to lead the series 2-1.

Penticton opened the scoring on their second power play of the night, as Nicholas Jones popped home a loose puck past Matthew Greenfield to open the scoring.

Jonathan Desbiens got the Warriors tied up late in the frame sending the 1342 fans into an energetic frenzy, getting a pass from Quin Foreman and sliding one through the legs of Zachary Driscoll on the backhand with just 90 seconds remaining.

Special teams ruled the middle period, with West Kelowna killing off three straight penalties including a 1:23 of 5 on 3 time. The Vees took their only penalty of the game in the final minute of the second to take themselves off their fifth power-play.

The Warriors Liam Blackburn scored at 8:19 of the third period off a point shot by Tyler Anderson which may have deflected twice before Blackburn banged in home to give the Warriors their first lead.

West Kelowna held on through the final 11:41 of the game for the victory, including killing off a penalty with just 3:30 remaining.

Blackburn earned first star honours while Greenfield was the second star.

Game 4 goes Tuesday night at Royal LePage Place at 7 PM. You can buy tickets at the Warriors office from 9-4 or by calling 250-769-7051.
