RECAP: Sodergren Plays Hero As Warriors Extend Win Streak To Five

The West Kelowna Warriors capped off their 5th straight win in style with a 3-2 double overtime victory over the Trail Smoke Eaters from Royal LePage Place on Thursday night.

The Warriors opened the scoring on a power play goal coming 8:11 into the game and came on a deflection. After a pass from Michael Ryan was one-timed toward goal by Logan Mostat, it changed direction in front and Chase Dubois did the honours for his 10th goal of the season and his first in 11 games to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

Just before the period came to an end, the Smoke Eaters scored on a two-on-one as Troy Ring fed Ross Armour for a shot that just squeaked through the legs of Warriors netminder Shane Farkas at the 19:14 mark of the opening period to tie the game at one.

The 2nd period was scoreless between both sides but the Warriors had plenty of chances to break the deadlock. West Kelowna fired 16 shots on in the 2nd period but Trail goaltender Zach Dyment stood tall. Shane Farkas made 9 saves in the 2nd frame to send the game to a 1-1 tie into the final period.

The Warriors took their second lead of the game at the 6:07 mark of the 3rd period as Jake Harrison potted his 3rd goal of the season on a right circle shot past the glove side of Dyment to restore a one goal advantage for the Warriors at 2-1.

Trail tied the game at the 10:33 mark of the 3rd period off an end board bounce that left the stick of Connor Brown-Maloski that found Mitchell Barker in front and the former Warrior beat Farkas to get the game even again at 2-2.

That ended regulation and the two teams were off to overtime were the first OT solved nothing with each teams throwing three shots on goal in the 4-on-4 frame.

The 2nd overtime period did result in a winner as 3:46 into the 3-on-3 frame, Connor Sodergren scored his 2nd overtime winner of the season and his 12th goal of the campaign. Sodergren choreographed the sequence with Jake Harrison and Chase Dubois as he hit Harrison with a pass, followed up with a pass to Dubois who feathered a pass in front for Sodergren and he beat Dyment to the blocker side for the Warriors 3-2 double overtime victory.

Shane Farkas made 36 saves on 38 shots for his 12th win of the season and his 6th victory in a row while Zach Dyment stopped 37 shots on 40 attempts on goal for his 14th loss and his 5th loss in a row.
