The West Kelowna Warriors win streak was halted at four games on Sunday afternoon after a 6-1 defeat to the hands of the Prince George Spruce Kings at Royal LePage Place.
Former Warriors Tanner Campbell, Tyler Anderson and Brett Mennear combined for five points as the Spruce Kings salvaged their Interior Division road trip with a victory while the Warriors win streak was stopped at four games.
Travis Schneider opened the scoring for the Spruce Kings as just 2:19 in he beat Warrior netminder Shane Farkas to give Prince George the early 1-0 lead.
The Spruce Kings tallied two goals in a span of 38 seconds as Brett Mennear sniped a shot past the glove side of Farkas alone in the slot on the power play to make it 2-0 at the 12:59 mark of the 1st period.
Prince George tripled their lead with Tyler Anderson’s right circle shot on the power play at the 13:27 mark to extend the lead to 3-0 for the visitors.
Kyle Johnson pushed the Spruce Kings advantage to four, batting a puck out of mid air past Farkas at the 15:23 mark to make it a 4-0 Prince George lead.
Another power play goal for the Spruce Kings came in the 3rd period as again it was Tyler Anderson scoring his second goal of the game with a slap shot from the right point making it 5-0 Prince George at the 7:10 mark of the 3rd period.
Ben Poisson capped of the Spruce King scoring on the afternoon, converting on a 2-on-0 with Travis Schneider to give Prince George a 6-0 lead at the 16:50 mark of the final period of play.
The Warriors broke the goose egg at the 18:22 mark of the 3rd period as Blake Coffey worked his way through the neutral zone and beat Spruce King goaltender Stefan Wornig glove side from the bottom of the circle for his 2nd goal of the season and making a 6-1 final in favour of Prince George.
Shane Farkas made 21 saves on 27 shots in the loss for the Warriors while Stefan Wornig turned aside 25 of the 26 shots he faced for his 6th victory of the season.
The Warriors (9-10-0-1) return to action for just one game next week when they travel to the Kootenays to take on the Trail Smoke Eaters (10-9-0-1) at 7 PM from Cominco Arena. The game can be heard on the Warriors Internet Network or by live pay-per-view on hockeytv.com. West Kelowna returns home to RLP on Friday, November 18th to host the Vernon Vipers.
