WEST KELOWNA, B.C. – The West Kelowna Warriors found an offensive surge that propelled them to a 6-0 shutout victory over the Chilliwack Chiefs on Saturday night at Royal LePage Place.
Cavin Tilsley had himself a three-point night while Jake Harrison, Michael Ryan and Tyler Jutting each had multi point games with Cole Demers picking up his first career BCHL shutout with 22 saves in the victory.
The Warriors opened the scoring, with the eventual game winning goal, at the 8:27 mark of the first period while shorthanded. Tilsley earned his first goal of the night, and first of the season, racing down the right wing and coming in on a shorthanded breakaway, beating Chilliwack netminder Mathieu Caron on the blocker side for the 1-0 Warriors lead.
West Kelowna added to their lead at the 9:50 mark of the 2nd period stemming off a gorgeous stretch pass from Michael Ryan inside of his own zone to spot RJ Murphy alone at the Chiefs blue line on a Warriors power play. Murphy backhanded a pass to Willie Reim on the odd man break who beat Caron over the blocker side for his 2nd goal of the season and a 2-0 lead.
Just before the period was out, with 22 seconds remaining to be exact, Peter Tomaras raced through the neutral zone and broke in on a 2-on-1 rush, electing to keep and shot the puck under the blocker of Caron for a 3-0 Warriors lead and Tomaras’ 1st goal of the season.
The Warriors scored three times in the 3rd period in 1:12 with the first of the three starting at the 12:20 mark on the power play. Chase Stevenson and Chase Dubois moved the puck well and got it to an open Ryan at the right point who snapped a shot over the glove hand of Caron for a 4-0 lead.
Jake Harrison followed that up just 30 seconds later at the 12:50 point of the 3rd period after receiving a nifty spin-o-rama pass from Wyatt Head from the right corner. Harrison got the puck at the left point and fired a wrist shot over Caron for a 5-0 Warriors advantage.
Tilsley added his 2nd goal of the game just 42 seconds after the Harrison marker as at the 13:32 mark of the 3rd period, Jared Marino rushed down the right wing, feeding a pass cross ice for Harrison just above the right face-off circle before passing to the middle for Tilsley making no mistake through Caron’s pads for the 6-0 lead and eventual final score.
He came 1:28 away from it just under three weeks ago in West Kelowna against the Centennials but Cole Demers finally got his 1st BCHL shutout with a 22-save performance and his 3rd victory of the season. Daniel Chenard left the game just 7:47 in after being injured and giving way to Mathieu Caron, who made 22 saves on 28 shots in his 2nd loss of the season.
