GAME RECAP: Demers Backstops Warriors To 4-1 Victory Over Clippers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OCTOBER 15th, 2017

WEST KELOWNA, B.C. – The West Kelowna Warriors picked up their 9th win of the season behind a 34-save performance of Cole Demers for a 4-1 victory over the Nanaimo Clippers on Sunday afternoon at Royal LePage Place.

The afternoon didn’t start off on the right note for the Warriors as Nanaimo opened the scoring just 45 seconds into the game as Jake Harris busted down the right wing and beat Warriors netminder Cole Demers to the glove side for the only goal of the opening period.

The 1st period was a bit of a slow starting one but the Warriors did get their feet moving and looking to erase the early deficit. Cavin Tilsley put a shot toward the goal that was kicked out by the right pad of Clippers goaltender Noah Featherstonhaugh Gowe with the rebound coming to Jared Marino with Featherstonhaugh Gowe reaching across for a great save with the stick.

The Warriors didn’t waste any time getting back in the game in the 2nd period as at the 4:21 mark of the period, Michael Ryan capitalized on a point shot. The Marion, Massachusetts native had his left point shot deflected off a defender in front of the goal and his 2nd marker of the season tied the game at one.

Just 13 seconds after the Ryan tally, Jake Harrison pushed the Warriors ahead by a goal at the 4:34 mark of the frame with a wrist shot from the left-wing face-off circle that grazed the shoulder of Featherstonhaugh Gowe but ended up behind him for Harrison’s 2nd goal of the season and a 2-1 Warriors lead.

West Kelowna added to their lead in the 3rd period as just 4:15 into the final frame, Stephen Kleysen tallied his 3rd goal of the season off a left-wing rush and a shot that went through the goaltender Featherstonhaugh Gowe cleanly for a 3-1 Warriors advantage.

Parm Dhaliwal would provide the finishing touches on the offence for the afternoon as Chase Stevenson centered a pass into the slot for the awaiting Dhaliwal, who chipped the puck toward the net, off a defender and in for his 3rd goal of the season and would give the Warriors a 4-1 lead, which would end up as the final score.

Cole Demers had a great night in the Warriors crease as he turned aside 34 of the 35 shots he faced in the game for his 4th victory of the season while Nanaimo’s Noah Featherstonhaugh Gowe stopped 31 of the 35 shots thrown his way in his 4th loss of the season.
